Medical Card Entitlements
Patients who are 16 years old and older and who have their own full medical card are entitled to a
limited range of treatments which are funded by the HSE.
A GP visit card holder does not have any entitlements.
Free Entitlements include:
One free examination per year(ie 2020). This includes a dental examination and oral cancer check.
Up to two fillings per year.
Whatever extractions are required.
Prescriptions.
Denture repairs and additions.
Dentures can be provided subject getting approval from the HSE’s Principal Dental Officer.
More extensive treatment may be available subject to approval to patients with certain medical
conditions.
(Such as Diabetes or Cancer)
